The SKDS survey conducted in the autumn of 2021 showed that a significant part of the Latvian society believes that the level of Latvia's general government debt is high compared to other European countries. However, according to the Eurostat data, the total level of Latvia's general government debt in that period was lower than in half of European countries both as a share of GDP and as general government debt per capita. Thus, the Fiscal Discipline Council considers that it should increase public awareness regarding the amount of general government debt. Therefore, the Council will publish a report on general government debt every quarter.
