Janis Platais is consultant for the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank on public financial management and government finance statistics. He has worked as advisor to the Minister of Finance of Latvia, has international long-term consulting experience of more than 15 years with the IMF and the World Bank focusing on institution building in public finance. He held management positions in the ministries of finance and welfare of Latvia in 1990s shaping the institutions.
Janis Platais graduated from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Latvia and holds a Master's degree in economics. As of January 1 2014, he is a member of the Fiscal Council of Latvia. Jānis Platais worked in the Fiscal Discipline Council from 01.01.2014 to 31.12.2019 as its member and chairman and currently he is a member of the Council's Expert Panel.
